Re:      Strategic Plan Goals and Organizational Restructuring

As many of you may know, Jennifer Irwin will be leaving the library to pursue a PhD in Business Management at the University of Oregon at the end of August.

Due to this upcoming vacancy, we re-examined the organizational structure for efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the strategic goals, as we routinely do when we have a vacancy. In looking at the needs of the library, we determined that merging the Circulation and Technical Services departments would create efficiencies and allow us to restructure the Librarian I positions within the library to better meet the supervisory needs of the organization.

The Technical Services Supervisor will be the supervisor of this new department. We will be replacing the Circulation Supervisor position with an additional LI giving both the merged TS/CS department, and the Reference Services department two LIs to oversee day-to-day operations. The new IA department will have a single LI as the supervisory duties are lighter in that department.

This transition will take place at the end of August. Over the next few months, we will be developing the roles of the various LI positions, and working out details of how the merged department will best meet organizational needs.

To facilitate this transition, Ed Hughes will be attending Circulation Department meetings, meeting weekly with the Circulation Supervisor and LI, and working with the Circulation Supervisor to review department goals and services.
