With school coming up right around the corner, the Rapid City Public Library (RCPL) is getting ready to start the school year off with a bang by planning a whole array of events on the week of Aug. 30.

Stop by RCPL-Downtown after school on Monday, Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. for a gaming day featuring Guitar Hero, a selection of Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii games as well as unlimited use of our laptops. If you miss this one, don’t worry! We will be featuring an encore presentation on Friday, Sept. 3.

On Thursday, Sept. 2, our good friends from Play N Trade will show up from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. to demo some of their new and upcoming computer games upstairs in our youth services area. Be sure to stop in and see what new titles are coming out and play a few demos. Whether your favorite is StarCraft II: Wings of Victory, World of Warcraft, The Sims or Fallout, the Rapid City Public Library and Play N Trade will have something for you.

When you stop in, don’t forget to take advantage of the eBook revolution with the Rapid City Public Library! We now have a 200 title collection of eBooks for you to download onto your laptop, Smartphone, Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook or Kobo eReader and it is growing every day. eBooks are digital, onscreen versions of published books that are easy to download and convenient to use. If you haven’t tried this service yet then maybe the beginning of school is the time to start. eBooks are downloadable for 7, 14 or 21 days which is perfect for school assignments.
