Re: Acoustics proposal recommendation

Recommendation: Accept the proposal from Gustafson Builders to enclose of the ceiling in the upstairs meeting room. Cost of the proposal is $7,490, and is budgeted in the 2010 Board Funds budget.

Background: Three proposals were received for the meeting room ceiling project. Lee Geiger has worked with both of the two lower bidders, and identified that either would complete a project that is well within the range of acceptability.

The City’s Risk Management Officer recommends that the library not purchase a separate Builders’ Risk insurance rider. For a project of this size, there is automatic coverage under the city’s property policy. Because the entire cost of the ceiling project is well within the city’s $50,000 deductible, Risk Management recommends that the city self-insure.

Upon approval by the Library Board, the contractor will be notified and work can begin immediately; the specified completion date is March 1. Meetings scheduled in the upstairs room will be relocated to other rooms for the duration of construction.
