RE: 2010 Legislative Day
Summary: The annual Legislative Day in 2010 will be
held on January 14 in Pierre. Legislative
Day allows librarians across the state to speak with legislators about the issues
important to libraries in our state.
Each
year the South Dakota Library Association (SDLA) members facilitate a
presentation and host a reception for legislators in the State Library. This
year the presentation will include an explanation of the MyLRC feature on the
Legislative Research Council’s website and of the RSS feature on the SDLA website. The Reception will also be held
at the state library in the evening of January 14.
The
2010 Legislative Issues Platform and talking points for the
reception include:
·
Enhancing
the existing State Publications Distribution process to include guidelines for electronic
formats
·
Enabling
the voluntary formation of public library districts, subject to a vote of
the people affected
·
Helping
to serve the underserved in ways that include
o
Local
investment in and support of library service
o
Financial
assistance for interlibrary borrowing
o
Maintaining
the budget and the staff for the South Dakota State Library
·
RCPL
staff members will attend legislative day as a training event and for SDLA
participation and engagement
