Community, Governmental and Interlibrary Relations: Greta Chapman and
Carlos Ramirez attended the Going Green Conference
in Dallas, TX, along with representatives from the County Commission and
WDT. Ideas gathered will aid in
development of a green library facility at WDT, as well as identify energy
efficiencies for the downtown library.

Chapman attended the annual City of Rapid City Legislative update for area
representatives regarding city issues. In addition to sustaining operations at
the State Library, the SDLA 2010 Legislative Platform includes Library
Districts. Future updates shall be provided during the session.
The
RC School District selected Forefront Design for the East Branch@WDT. The
contract includes the selection of a library consultant.
The
Library Foundation received a $400,000 from the estate of previous library
volunteer Virigina Holtry. This completes all but $20,000 of the Endowment
Capital Campaign.
Staff
Training and Development:
An
all-staff training session was held on the teenage brain, presented by Sheryl
Feinstein from Augustana College. This session was held in conjunction with the
Customer Relations Strategic Plan workgroup.
Three staff members attended the half day
database training sponsored by the South Dakota State Library.

Services and Enhancements:
The circulation area was reconfigured to
install self
check-in machines for patron use; by the end of December, approximately 30%
of check-ins were handled by the self-check system.
A mobile phone use page and
a new frequently
asked questions page were added to the library’s website; the mobile phone
page will allow patrons to access us through their web-enabled phones, from
wherever they are. The library’s online database page was
also reconfigured for easier use and searching multiple databases
simultaneously.
