  1. Budget FY 2011
    • Currently receive $2 Million in State Funds
    • Currently receive $1 Million in Federal Funds
    • If State funds are reduced will cause reduction in Federal monies.

 

  1. SDLN

·         Task force is evaluating third party software for ExLibra to make more users friendly.  Report expected week of 1/24/10.  Recommendations to be forwarded to Board.

 

       3.  Public Library Standards

·         The Public Library Standards for library accreditation have been revised and presented to the State Library Board.  This was approved by the Board unanimously.

 

4.   Public Library Librarian Certification

·         First meeting of the Task Force was in December 2009

·         Phone conference call in January 2010 with sub-committees

·         Next step is to go back to Task Force to combine section revisions into one revised document, then present to the SD library community for additional comments and revisions.

·         The document will then be reviewed by State Librarian and then to the State Library Board for approval.

 

5.   School Library Standards

·         Current standards were adopted in 2004 and not yet aligned with the updated national standards released in 2007.

·         Task force named of individuals, representing school libraries, local administration, SDLA, the State Library, and the Department of Education.

·         First meeting held in January 2010.

·         Final report to State Librarian by first week of August 2010.

 

Next meeting will be held April 27 in Sioux Falls, with tour of Braille and Large Print plant at State Penitentiary, followed by the Board meeting at Sioux Falls Public Library.
