Summary: For
the first time, library circulations reached and exceeded the 1 million
mark. Increases were seen in the areas
of social networking content added, page views, and friends or fans following
our pages. New borrowers, computer usage, circulation, patron contacts,
programming attendance, and materials added all increased this year. RCPL-North
experienced increases in entry count and computer usage.

Borrowers
·
New borrowers are up 17% in 2009.
o
This
increase is attributed to the counting of social networking friends as new
patrons.
o
Non
Pennington County Adult and Youth borrowers also had increases of 52% and 200%
respectively.
Electronic
Access
RCPL-North

Circulation
·
For the first time,
circulation exceeded the 1 million mark, with 1,018,386 circulations total
circulations:
o
A focus on providing improved and additional social
networking content that translated directly into more views
o
A revised procedures that more consistently tracks usage
throughout the day
o
Increased usage of electronic resources such as online
databases, facilitated by user-friendly access to those resources
o
Continuing demand for non-print materials
o
Social networking views, which account for 10% of this
increase
Patron Contacts

Outreach Services
·
Attendence of Programs, Tours, and Classes increased by 74%
while the number of programs, tours, and classes increased 20%.
o
In 2009, programming attendence increased due to more
programs and targeted niche programming such as Community Voices.
·
The
number of Volunteers increased by 62%.

Collection Development
·
Print
materials added increased 30% from
2008 while Non-print materials added
increased13%.
o
Staff
are ordering more non-print for both branches as part of the plan to increase
circulation by rotating materials and ordering current, popular items for the
collection.
·
Materials
withdrawn remained consistent with 2008 with a difference of -238 items
withdrawn.
