BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Community,
Governmental and Interlibrary Relations:
Summer
reading program team members visited twelve schools in May to promote the Get
Creative program that begins June 6.
Staff
attended the May forum event at the Sturgis Public Library. This gathering
featured presentations by western South Dakota libraries.
Basic
computer skills and resume development services were marketed to help those
unemployed. Public awareness and community connections for these materials will
continue.
Greg
Russ the library network supervisor moved to City Hall as part of the city wide
IT reorganization. Support services to the library are provided by centralized
administrators for networks, servers and security. Technicians are assigned to
city departments for daily operations.
Staff
Training and Development:
Janet
Parr, new Public Services library assistant employee, began her job duties May
26. All vacancies are filled for the Public Service Department.
Pushing
Out the Walls, a state library electronic resources training opportunity, was
held at the downtown library May 28. Three RCPL employees attended as well as
eight other area librarians.
G.
Chapman facilitated a teambuilding exercise with department directors using the
book Strengthsfinder 2.0.

Services and Enhancements:
A
new microfilm machine was purchased for the public’s use based on the equipment
replacement cycle.
Mango, a
foreign language instructional database, Medline Plus, a medical research
website, and the Polk City
Directory Online were added to the electronic database offerings.
