BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Community,
Governmental and Interlibrary Relations:
In
order to promote library services through public speaking engagements, Outreach
Services has enhanced communication with community day care centers
(specifically in the General Beadle area), local book clubs, and groups
utilizing the library’s meeting rooms; the purpose is to identify organizations
that would like a presentation of library services.
The
Knowledge
Network is being piloted with information about employment opportunities. The Knowledge Network is planned as an online
resource with links to community information, online government forms and area
for multimedia display of community services.
Several
meetings are scheduled for union negotiations in June, July and August. The
current contract expiration date is December 31, 2009. A briefing was provided
for the new statewide open records law that begins July 1.

Chapman joined other Department Directors on an afternoon for the volunteer
build at the Vicki Powers Park.
Staff
Training and Development:
Five staff members attended “Attitudes for
Service,” a customer service training session presented by the Chamber of
Commerce
The Strategic Planning workgroup for the
Integrated Library System (ILS) has been meeting to discuss system needs and
SDLN fixes with ExLibris. Two vendor
demonstrations are scheduled to take place later this summer.
Featured
Services and Enhancements:
A
microfilm machine was purchased as a scheduled
replacement. Features of the new machine include: networked printing to the
downstairs copier, eliminating the need for a separate printer and coin-op;
loading a scanned document onto a USB drive; and high-resolution images and
zooming capabilities.
