BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Community, Governmental and Interlibrary Relations:

In order to promote library services through public speaking engagements, Outreach Services has enhanced communication with community day care centers (specifically in the General Beadle area), local book clubs, and groups utilizing the library’s meeting rooms; the purpose is to identify organizations that would like a presentation of library services.

The Knowledge Network is being piloted with information about employment opportunities.  The Knowledge Network is planned as an online resource with links to community information, online government forms and area for multimedia display of community services.

Several meetings are scheduled for union negotiations in June, July and August. The current contract expiration date is December 31, 2009. A briefing was provided for the new statewide open records law that begins July 1.

G. Chapman joined other Department Directors on an afternoon for the volunteer build at the Vicki Powers Park.

Staff Training and Development:

Five staff members attended “Attitudes for Service,” a customer service training session presented by the Chamber of Commerce

The Strategic Planning workgroup for the Integrated Library System (ILS) has been meeting to discuss system needs and SDLN fixes with ExLibris.  Two vendor demonstrations are scheduled to take place later this summer.

Featured Services and Enhancements:

A microfilm machine was purchased as a scheduled replacement. Features of the new machine include: networked printing to the downstairs copier, eliminating the need for a separate printer and coin-op; loading a scanned document onto a USB drive; and high-resolution images and zooming capabilities.
