Re: PLA Leadership Fellows Scholarship
Recommendation for approval if selected for a three week paid leave attendance at the Harvard University Senior Executives in State and Local Government Leadership Fellows June 9 – 26 or July 9 – 30, 2009. 50% of the paid leave applied to the director’s vacation leave with 50% paid leave from the library and the round trip transportation paid by the director.
Background: the Public Library Association is sponsoring a scholarship for senior executives in state and local government to attend the Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. One person is selected for the three week scholarship program of two start dates either June 9 or July 9, 2009. The $11,000 covers the cost of tuition that includes most meals and housing. The award winner is responsible for the round trip transportation.
The program is a unique learning opportunity to broaden perspectives, improve leadership skills, drive change and plan with a strategic vision. The program focuses upon applying management concepts generally learned in a business school setting, that are vital for public administrators. If selected in addition to participation in the program, the attendee would also submit a written report and provide a presentation to the PLA Board at 2010 Annual Conference.
