Re:       4th Quarter and 2008 review county patrons’ library use

Summary:  The number of Pennington County library users continued to increase at the rate established in previous years. The following tables and charts show comparative data on use of the Rapid City Public Library by county residents served under the contract with Pennington County.

·         The Total New Users represents the number of users added in each month

o   The number of new uses reached a high in September, which is consistent with established patterns and coincides with Library Card Sign-up Month and the Get a Fresh Start @ The Library program

·         The Total Circulation to County Users tracks the number of items checked out to the population served under the county contract

o   There is an increase in Total Circulation to County Users that coincides with increased use during summer months

o   There was a decrease in the fourth quarter which follows a seasonal pattern experienced with all users

* Numbers declined due to annual purge of expired library cards; follows annual trend

The July – October increase in new patrons is likely attributable to patrons reinstating purged cards and promotions such as Library Card sign-up month.

Circulation to PC residents continues to follow established trends.
