RE: 2008 PIR Summary

Summary: Overall incident reports for 2008 decreased from 2007, but more calls were made to law enforcement (387 in 2008 compared to 333 in 2007). These factors combined are reflective of the library’s proactive response to situations before they evolve into incidents.

· The 2008 Incident Reports dropped 65% from the previous year

o Increased staff training could account for some of this reduction as better communication with patrons tend to diminish negative interactions

· The monthly pattern is similar to the pattern in 2007

o An increase is expected with the end of summer and other extended breaks as returning or new students reacquaint themselves with library policies

o The library also has increased reports as the weather changes
