RE:     2nd Quarter 2009 Statistics

Date:  July 29, 2009

Summary: The second quarter of 2009, compared to the same quarter a year ago, shows increases in the social networking areas of content added, friends added, and views. Patron contacts have also increased by 21%. Programming increased in both numbers of programs and attendance.

Social Networking: Online content increased by 240%, which resulted from a surge of friends added (+315%) and page views (+186%). Page views for our social networking sites reached an all time high of 7,561 in June.

RCPL-North: Computer use and entry counts have shown significant increases, and the circulation is halfway to the goal set for November 2009.

o   We anticipate meeting the circulation goal by the November timeframe

§  Rotation of new materials to the North collection will increase circulations and aid in achieving this goal

o   Entry count goal has been achieved.

o   Computer usage is within 10% of its goal

Collection Development

·         Print materials added increased 71% at the downtown library, but decreased 49% at RCPL-North.

o   The decrease at RCPL-N is explained by the initial collection development that was needed when the library opened in 2008, which was not repeated in 2009

·         Non-print materials decreased 3% overall from last year’s second quarter. Largest decrease of 78% was at RCPL-N.

·         Print withdrawals increased 43% downtown and 1625% at RCPL-N in the 2nd quarter.

Use of Self-Check Machines:  The average self-check usage for the 2nd quarter was 69%
