RE:          2007 Annual Statistics Review

Summary:  This report is generally presented after the first quarter of the year; internal procedures have been updated so that the information is consistently presented each March.

Overall 2007 statistics follow established patterns similar to previous years.

·         The Online Resources graph shows growth for 2007 as compared to 2006, for both the use of the library’s public access computers as well as hits on the library homepage.

·         Materials Circulation graph shows continuation of established circulation patterns but with slightly lower numbers than the previous year.

o   1st and 2nd quarters:  Ordering of new materials was behind schedule, causing decreased circulation for new titles; this was corrected, and ordering was on track for the remainder of the year

o   3rd and 4th quarters: analog AV formats (VHS and audio cassettes) were withdrawn as the last phase of a planned transition to digital formats (DVDs and books on CD); this did however cause a slight decrease in circulation.  Current purchases of new DVDs and books on CD are on track to continue development of this collection.

·         Total Borrowers numbers are consistent, following annual cyclical trends

o   Trend line for February - April reflects the annual purge of inactive patron accounts

o   Total County borrowers were down slightly likely due to uncertainty with county contract; numbers picked up as contract was established

·         In the New Borrowers graph the numbers for Pennington County users again indicates a drop in usage during the last quarter of 2007.

o   The spike in new borrowers during June likely reflects increased library card signups for the children’s and adult’s summer reading programs

·         The Programming graph indicates successful adult programs represented by spikes in the graph.

o   March-April 2007 – The Big Read events: “My Antonia”

o   September 2007 – One Book South Dakota: “The Whistling Season”
