Re:        Information Resource Development policy summary of changes

The library’s comprehensive policy for materials selection has been reviewed for recommended changes.  The recommendations focus on three primary areas:

·         Addition of the South Dakota materials as a separate collection

o   In a previous policy revision approximately five years ago, the SD materials were integrated with the main non-fiction and Reference collections.  However, patron feedback has shown this is not an effective method for identifying and using these materials.  The recommendation is for returning to the separate configuration for the SD materials

·         Removal of the status as a South Dakota documents depository

o   Patron use has shown that the physical documents are not utilized; patrons and staff access current state information online

o   The Devereaux Library at SDSM&T has expressed an interest in assuming the depository role, in keeping with their role as a research library

·         Modification of a committee to review Statement of Concern forms

o   This committee had previously been configured with six members.  The reconfiguration calls for three members, and retains the same reporting structure

§  Because of difficulty of identifying a neutral community representative in a timely manner, the community would be represented through the Board hearing process
