Re: Purging expired patron records
Recommendation:
Approve the annual removal of
patron records that expired a minimum of three years ago, in accordance with
the Fines-forgiving
policy. The current estimates are compared to previous years in the table
below:

The $83,500
estimated for 2008 is less than 1% of our total estimated collection value of
$2.2M.
Background: In January 2008, the Board
approved the 2007 fines forgiveness on active patron records per the
fines-forgiveness policy. This
recommendation is for the annual purging of expired patron records, also in
accordance with the policy. For future
reports, these two pieces of information will be combined into one document.
The number of expired patrons for 2008 is larger than
in recent years:

Data conversion issues generated by the previous system migration in
2004 are now being resolved
·
Assuming a continuation of current patron renewal rates, the number of
cards to be purged in the future should stabilize at around 5000 annually
