Executive Summary
The first Technology Annual Planning Session was conducted
in 2005-2006. Shortly after the first meeting started, the group realized that
the agenda was too extensive for one session, so the agenda was split into
three sessions. These sessions helped
shed some light both in how Network Services is viewed by other staff and how
the staff within Network Services views themselves.
Outcomes
Network Services is to attend all department planning
sessions
Library Technology
- Established
that the management group covers the whole spectrum when it comes to
technology advancement, from early adopters to the “wait and see”
- This
spectrum supports the library best due to the fact that the group as a
whole can discuss new technology and come to a decision.
- The
spectrum also supplies a good check and balance system so that no one
side of the spectrum can proceed without justification.
- Questions
to answer for technology advancement
- How
does the technology impact the patron
- How
does the technology affect staff’s ability to serve the patrons?
Internet Redesign
- The
old template was removed
- Headers
and footers were anchored to each page to minimize amount of time spent to
change these areas

is to be created by the Supervisors / Library 1 meeting
Mission Statement
- New
mission statement: “Network Services provides support and direction on
technology issues for the departments of the Rapid City Public Library.”
