Re:                   Staff training for 2006

On December 12, 2006 the Management Team met and discussed training for both staff and management for the coming year. The Supervisors had conducted a survey on what training the staff would like to have.  Using this list, along with the training needs they perceived to accomplish projects and the strategic plan goals, a calendar of the coming year was outlined.

The training for hard skills (computers, printers, etc.) and soft skills (people skills) was divided throughout the 12-month calendar.  In scheduling and distributing the training sessions, the Supervisors considered what training sessions should logically follow one another, and what would build on previously learned skills. Critical thinking, conflict management, customer service, library skills and technology will be the focus of staff training in 2006.

Management Team training will consist of soft skills training such as substance abuse recognition, conflict management, and written communication. The needs of the Management Team, being different than front line staff, required a different training schedule and topics.

For several of the training sessions for both staff and the management team, outside speakers will be sought using already budgeted training funds.
