Re: Long-expired Patron cards with Fines
Action needed: Board approval to purge 1,753 inactive patron cards and
void $30,000 in fines.
Background: The information presented here is in accordance with the Fines Forgiving policy; upon approval the expired patron records will be purged from the system.

- Approximate fines
and materials attached: $30,000 (There is no cost data
connected to the materials checked out to these cards; the dollar amount
of fines and materials forgiven is estimated using data from past years
multiplied by the total number of patron cards expired)
Over 50% of the total fines and materials are owed by only 8% of the expired patrons.
Also attached is a related
document regarding the overdue accounts which have been turned over to the city
attorney for collection.
