Re: Surplus item
Action needed: Board to declare the old 3M security gates surplus, with a
value of $715.
Background: Per the
equipment replacement schedule, the 3M entry security gates were replaced in
2005. The old gates cannot be given
away, as their value is more than $500.
(The value of the gates was determined to be 10% of their original
purchase price; no equipment depreciates to less than 10%). We may sell them by bid, but the Board would
need to declare them surplus first.
If
a sale by bid is approved, we must publish a notice of sale at least 10 days
prior to the sale1; the advertisement needs to be published in the
newspaper twice. Sealed bids will be
received by the Board at a time specified in the notice; this could be done at
the March Board meeting.
If
no bids are received, the equipment could be reappraised or sold at the city
auction. However, there has been
interest from other local libraries in purchasing these gates, so we may
receive some bids.
