Re: Application to Ph.D. Managerial Leadership in the Information Services
This memo is a follow up from our conversation in regard to my application to the Simmons College Ph.D. Managerial Leadership in the Information Services program. I have demonstrated my interest and ability to participate in programming outside of the daily operations of Rapid City Public Library as a contribution and challenge in my career.
I have been in the library profession for 27 years and find that my experiences and technical expertise would benefit from the educational process by adding value to my daily responsibilities and the profession. My interests and successes have revolved around the managerial librarian and the profession is in a critical shortage in this area. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity and your support in my submission for the Ph.D. program.
The program allows for successful applicants to defer the program by one year and this would be my preference. This would allow for completing my recent election to SDLA and teaching of graduate courses.
Both of my previous degrees were obtained while I was employed full time and through distance education. The Ph.D program is a total of 36 credits over three years. There would be approximately 15 – 19 days each year on campus and the remainder of the course work accomplished in a virtual classroom. If I was accepted to the program it is a full scholarship of $30,600 for the cost of tuition. I would be responsible for providing travel costs.
This program addresses my interests and challenges my experiences as a transition of the next level of my career. I am very excited about the return to Rapid City Public Library and contribution to the profession.
