Re: Space use update

Progress on implementation of the space use plan continues. The staff has identified a number of efficiencies and alternatives within the scope of the project, which has reduced the overall projected cost. Some of these efficiencies include:

• Reconfiguration of the reference desks, rather than purchase of new – savings of approximately $65,000
• No new construction for public services offices and staff work spaces; reconfiguration of existing space in work room area – savings of approximately $31,500

Portions of the space use plan currently underway include:

• Remodel of the Friends book sale area – Friends have funded from $8,000-$10,000 for this project
• Anticipated completion December 31
• Reconfiguration of the public services work space – the public services staff have provided a recommendation to Admin. regarding the configuration of this space
• Anticipated completion November 17
• Reconfiguration of the circulation desk and circulation work area - to incorporate self-service and full-service stations
• Completion date to be set

An updated project matrix is being used to track the overall project.
