Re: Acoustics update
An acoustical findings report has been received from Larry Hansen of Engineered Aeroacoustics, Inc. This report identifies acoustical remediation for the upstairs area, the lobby, and the main reading area.
Attached is a summary report that identifies the findings from the June 24th testing. The upstairs vaulted ceiling area will require the most acoustical treatment, with 6,200 square feet of hanging baffles recommended. The recommended remediation for the main floor high-ceiling area is 1,200 square feet of wall-mounted baffles.
The attached illustrations demonstrate the proposed solutions. Illustration B requires some explanation: it shows panels that would be affixed to the back wall, not hanging from the ceiling as it might appear. Hanging ceiling panels are part of the overall solution though; a printed copy of that schematic plan will be provided to the Library Board members.
Cost estimates for this project would vary widely, depending upon the aesthetic treatment used on any of the baffle panels. However, a cost estimate of $117,920 was provided for a “plain vanilla” remediation – using plain fabrics over square-cut baffle panels. Any enhanced aesthetic treatments, such as panels cut into shapes or fabric upgrades, would add to that cost. Although the overall cost may appear to be large, the project could be divided into phases and completed over time.
