SDLN User Groups and Advisory Council

    Adopting priorities and election of officers were the focus of the meetings.

    Advisory Council took action for the hiring of a consultant to implement SFX/Metalib,

    adoption of the 2007 budget, the revised fee schedule and reviewed a staff and member  

    communication matrix.

 

State of the State Library Address

    Sec. of Educ. Dr. Melmer remarked on existing and future directions of the State Library. Library Consultant Dr. Mary Bushing will be hired to lead a state wide review and input for a State Library Strategic Plan.

 

Shaking Hand with Destiny: The Millennial Generation- review of generations in history along with generational personalities. Handout attached

 

Hollywood Librarian Ann Seidl – librarian that is working upon a documentary using movie clips about the image and work of librarians. Motivational, funny, and thoughtful insights for moving the librarian image to meet the needs of users. Why we can see back to history is because of the words we store. Librarianship is a ministry.

 

SKOG – SD for Open Government Panel

 

Information Literacy Becky Pasco – discussion of theory platform 1) knowledge is not direct experiences but mediated, 2) incomplete rendition of the original event, 3) mediated knowledge is shaped by prior history and current context tied to immediate language. Collaboration is the Key and a Contact Sport. Handout attached

 

Weblogs Aaron Schmidt

 

SDLA Public Library Section – agenda attached. New State Library Deputy to work upon updated the SD Trustee Manual. Requested of the SDLA Certification and Accreditation Committee to assess the status of eligibility libraries and develop incentives for recruitment of new participants along with recognition.

 

Awards Banquet – Eric Abrahamson received the SDLA Intellectual Freedom award.

 

Policy Research – Keith Curry Lance. www.lrs.org  presentation on statistical research with many tips. Handout attached

 

Photoshop – Judith Howard Augie, use and discussion of Photoshop software. Handout attached.
