RE: Background information for change in work week |
Revised Union Contract language has verbally been agreed
upon to give staff more consecutive days off when working a weekend. In order
for this to happen, both weekend days must be in the same week. Final
approval is waiting on the signing of a memorandum of understanding between
the |
The current Union Contract language states the pay period is from Sat. to Sunday. This means when someone works a weekend, the Saturday and Sunday are in different pay periods and do not allow for two consecutive days off, but instead have one day off in each of two weeks. |
With the proposed change in the payroll schedule, there may be times in an eight week schedule where a person could work ten days in a row. The ten days will occur in two different pay period which fits within the legal guidelines of the federal labor laws. This would happen when a person is scheduled off for Monday and Tuesday, giving four days off before the ten days. |
By changing the work week to Mon-Sun, the entire weekend is in a single week, allowing staff to have two consecutive days off. The current and future schedules are shown below: |
