RE: Background information for change in work week  

  

Revised Union Contract language has verbally been agreed upon to give staff more consecutive days off when working a weekend. In order for this to happen, both weekend days must be in the same week. Final approval is waiting on the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Union and Management.

            The current Union Contract language states the pay period is from Sat. to Sunday. This means when someone works a weekend, the Saturday and Sunday are in different pay periods and do not allow for two consecutive days off, but instead have one day off in each of two weeks.

            With the proposed change in the payroll schedule, there may be times in an eight week schedule where a person could work ten days in a row. The ten days will occur in two different pay period which fits within the legal guidelines of the federal labor laws. This would happen when a person is scheduled off for Monday and Tuesday, giving four days off before the ten days.

By changing the work week to Mon-Sun, the entire weekend is in a single week, allowing staff to have two consecutive days off. The current and future schedules are shown below:
