Web
Catalog Usage Statistics |
Problem: The new ILS system does not count the online catalog use. |
Resolution: ExLibris has to reprogram their software. However, this is not a priority during the implementation. |

Background: There has been a statistic report for web catalog usage by patrons. This statistic is no longer reported. When we were using Web Pals as our catalog program, it had a component that would keep a count of the number of times patrons would access our catalog. When we switch to Ariel as our library catalog program this statistic has been available. Ariel does not have a component in it program to keep a count of the number of times our patrons access our library catalog. We have tried to implement a link counter on our website to count the number of times patrons clicked the catalog link. The results of this were around 10,000 to 15,000 clicks counted per month over a 2 month period. According to previous counts from web pals we normally average 110,000 to 135,000 hits a month to our catalog. Since the aleph catalog is all part of a program Aleph would have to create a component to keep track of these statistics. This is an options Aleph is not considering proceeding with. Possible reason include the cost of time, development resources, and lack of consumer interest in the component. |
