Re: Acoustics

This is an update status on the project related to acoustics. Regional acoustical experts are located in Minneapolis and Denver. The Dahl expansion project interviewed a number of the companies within the region and selected Kirkegaard Associates located in Boulder, CO. In addition, in a conversation with Jim Sorenson, an acoustical engineer associated with KOTA, he noted that Kirkegaard is a reputable company. Jim is located in South Florida.

The contact person with Kirkegaard is Edward McCue and I have placed a call to him. There are two other companies we have made contact with, Engineered Aeroacoustics Inc., and O’neill Engineered Systems Inc. both in Minneapolis. Upon feedback from these companies, I anticipate drafting a proposal with costs for the Board’s review.

I also met with City Attorney Jason Green and Project Engineer Rod Johnson about the City’s Consultant Selection Procedure. Their understanding is the procedure does not apply for those consulting costs under $10,000. The process of selecting a consultant for costs under $10,000 is the supervision of the Department. If the costs were over $10,000, in general the steps followed are a person submits their resume to a prequalified list and participates in an interview before selection. Obtaining a person’s resume and interviewing is a process already established at the library for the selection of consultants.
