Library Foundation Board Minutes

Tuesday, January 6, 2004

 

Please note, the next meeting date has been changed to Wednesday, January 28th at noon in the Library

 

Members Present:

Eric Abrahamson, Maria McCarthy Anderson, Mike Wilson, Margaret Skillman and Greta Chapman.

 

Annual Dinner:

Eric discussed the option of bringing the author Margaret Atwood to Rapid City for April 3rd.  She will be in Denver at the Tattered Cover on the 2nd and if she would agree to fly to Rapid City, we would base our Foundation Dinner around her visit.  The Board discussed the idea of having a catered meal at the Library for 100 people, then going to the Elks Theatre for a presentation for the public.  Maria will see if the Elks is available for April 3rd.  Cost for an evening at the Elks is $500.    Another author that is available is Stephanie Kane from Colorado.  She writes law/mystery novels.  The idea of a Mystery Dinner is also an option.  The Board decided to pursue Margaret Atwood first, Stephanie Kane second and the Mystery Dinner third.  Malcolm has volunteered to work on the catering portion of the dinner.  Margaret Bader and Maria will do decorations.  Margaret S will put in a request for a temporary liquor license for that evening.

 

Chamber Mixer:

The Chamber Mixer will be hosted February 10th at the Library.  We will need to discuss the particulars at the January 28th meeting so everyone please make an effort to be in attendance for that meeting.  Your presence is also requested at the Mixer. The Foundation will have a table with information available and if we decide to do a membership drive for the Foundation, we could have the kick off at the mixer.  We should have information on the annual dinner available at that time too.  Margaret B and S will work on the display for that evening.

 

Planned Giving:

Amy has a volunteer in mind to do mailings etc. for the Foundation.  Eric will update the group at the next meeting

 

Foundation:
Maria will look into other Foundations to see how they are pursuing memberships.

 

Board Vacancy:

Be thinking of names of possible Board members.  Greta will have some names after the Library Board committee fills their vacancies.

 

Next meeting will be Wednesday, January 28th, noon at the Library.

Please make every attempt to attend as we have some serious decisions to make.
