* A drive-thru drop off location is located in the covered parking area and is accessible through the alley.

Library Newsletter
Our library newsletter is published once a month. You may subscribe online for emailed newsletters or stop by either library location to pick up a printed copy.

 

Parking
2 hour metered parking is available Monday through Saturday.

Bus Stop
A Rapid Ride bus stop is located on 6th St. near the Library's garage door. Ask for Route 3 to get to the library.

 

Phone Books
The Rapid City Public Library offers in-state phone books. We utilize web sites ( examples include switchboard.com or qwestdex.com ) to search for out-of-state phone numbers and addresses.

 

Pay Phone
Our pay phone is located in the lobby of the main entrance to our facility. Calls are $.50 apiece.

Number of Books in the Library
The Rapid City Public Library currently has 147,000 books in our collection.

 

Internet Access
We offer Internet Access computers that can be used for up to one hour a day. We also offer email computers that can be used for up to 30 minutes. Computer use is based on a first come - first serve basis. Our 2nd flood Youth Services area offers computers for research as well as educational games. Stop by the reference desk to register your library card for Internet use.

 

Wireless Internet
Wireless Access is available for our patrons who have laptops equipped with a wireless card. The connection access name is "PublicWireless".

 

Burning Disks on Library Computers - (blank disks available for purchase)
The majority of our computers have the ability to burn CD's. Stop at the Reference Desk for instructions. Blank CD's may be purchased from our vending machine upstairs for $1.00 each.

Word Processing
The Rapid City Public Library offers a self paced Microsoft Word tutorial and several computer devoted to word processing programs.

 

Printing Capability
Patrons may print pages at the cost of $.15 per page.

 

Copier for Public Use
Two copiers are available for public use. One is located on the first floor across from the Perk It Up Coffee Shop, the other one on the 2nd floor in Youth Services. Copies cost .15 cents per copy.

 

Public Fax Machine
Currently we do not offer a public fax machine. However, there are businesses close by that offer this service. Please ask at the reference desk for a list of those businesses.

 

Scanner for Public Use
Currently we do not have a public use scanner.

 

Periodicals
Current and back-issues are available. All but the current month's issue may be checked out. See the Borrower's Guide for more information.

 

Online Databases
The library offers many useful online databases including databases for business, literature, students, legal forms and language. Click here to view a complete list of databases offered.

 

Exam Proctoring
Please see our Exam Proctoring page. That page will provide you with more information and the appropriate form. The Reference staff will be glad to proctor your exams for you. Call 394-6139 x501 to set up a proctor, exam times and rooms.

Meeting and Study Rooms
Meeting Rooms and Study Rooms are available to patrons. Please see our Meeting Rooms and Study Rooms pages for more information and to make reservations online.

 

Notary Public
Stop by the business office at the downtown library to have a document notarized.

 

Book Clubs
We support book clubs by providing "Books to Go". This service includes a book bag with 6 books of one title plus a guide to help your book group have an enjoyable reading experience. Our Books to Go bags can be found hanging on the wall next to the Book Sale area on the first floor of the library.

 

Filters on the Children's Computers
With the Supreme Court Ruling of the Children's Internet Protection Act, filtering software has been placed on the youth department computers.

 

Story Times
The library offers weekly and monthly story times. Click here to see the story time schedule.

 

Children's' Picture Book Bins
The picture book bins, located around the outer wall on the second floor, are organized alphabetically by the first letter of an author's last name.

 

Birds (Aviary Upstairs)
The birds in the aviary on the second floor are leased to us from an organization called Living Design, INC., which is based out of Worthing, South Dakota. The Rapid City Public Library's facilities operators take part in the day to day care of the birds while Living Design, INC. checks the birds quarterly.

 

IRS Forms
Go to www.irs.gov for tax forms and publications. The Federal Building located at 515 Ninth Street (between Main and St. Joseph) also has tax forms and publications.
